There were rumors in February that Apple might plan to limit the charging speed and other features of USB-C cables that were not certified by its "CTOnews.com" (MFi) program. Like the existing Lightning port on the iPhone, the small chip in the USB-C port of the iPhone 15 series model can verify the connected USB-C cable.

"I believe Apple will optimize the fast charging performance of the iPhone 15's MFi certified charger," analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March.

In response to this rumor, EU Commissioner Thierry Thierry Breton has written to Apple warning the company not to restrict the function of USB-C cables, otherwise it will prevent iPhone from being sold in the EU after the law takes effect. German media reported that the European Union also warned Apple at a meeting in mid-March.

Given that the law must be complied with by the end of 2024, Apple is still likely to add authentication chips to the USB-C ports of the iPhone 15 series models later this year. The iPhone 16 model is expected to be launched in September 2024, and even these devices will be available before EU law goes into effect.

The EU intends to issue a guide to ensure a "uniform interpretation" of the legislation by the third quarter of this year, the report said.

So far, Apple has not officially responded to rumors that Apple may limit the functional information of uncertified USB-C cables connected to iPhone 15 series models. IPad with USB-C ports does not have an authentication chip for this purpose.
