Beijing, May 5 (Xinhua) Apple CEO Tim Cook (Tim Cook) revealed on a conference call in the second quarter on Thursday that the company's active subscribers are about to reach the 1 billion mark.

Apple's services revenue reached a record $20.91 billion in the second quarter, thanks to record growth in services such as App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, Advertising and AppleCare.

Cook said Apple's services business currently has more than 975 million active subscribers, an increase of more than 40 million in just three months and more than 150 million last year. Apple said in February that its service business had more than 935 million paid active subscribers.

Apple CFO Luca Maestri says that just three years ago, the company's service business had fewer than 500 million subscribers. He stressed that a strong active device base, high customer satisfaction and loyalty, and higher participation than ever before are factors driving the growth of the services business.

In addition, Cook also reiterated that layoffs are a "last resort", but large-scale layoffs are not in Apple's current plans.
