Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Hello_Rabbit, Sancu clue delivery! CTOnews.com May 4 news, according to German media Teslamag reported that Tesla's super factory in Berlin, Germany has begun production of BYD battery equipped Model Y rear drive basic version. This is Tesla's first use of Chinese-branded batteries and Tesla's first electric car in Europe with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries.

It is understood that this Model Y basic version uses BYD's blade battery technology, battery capacity of 55 kilowatt hours, range of 440 kilometers. CTOnews.com notes that, by contrast, the Model Y base version exported from the Shanghai factory in China to Europe uses Ningde era LFP batteries with a battery capacity of 60 kWh and a range of 455 kilometers. The main difference between the two is that BYD's blade batteries have higher safety and energy density, and can be installed directly in the body structure, reducing weight and cost.

Tesla's German factory also uses innovative casting technology to cast the front and rear frames of the Model Y into one piece at a time, improving body strength and stability, a technology Tesla CEO Elon Musk once called a revolution in automotive manufacturing.

At present, Tesla Germany factory has produced Model Y performance version and long endurance version. The basic version of the Model Y with BYD batteries may be off the assembly line within a month. It also means Tesla will offer more options and price ranges in Europe to attract more consumers.

Tesla has no plans to use BYD batteries in the Chinese market for the time being and still relies mainly on Ningde Times and LG Chemical as battery suppliers. However, as Tesla expands capacity and sales globally, it may establish relationships with more partners in the future to ensure the stability and diversity of battery supply.
