CTOnews.com, May 4 (Xinhua)-- The Boring Company, owned by Elon Musk (Elon Musk), has announced that it plans to expand its Las Vegas underground tunnel network, the Vegas Loop, by 25 miles, which will add 18 new stations to its original plan.

The Vegas Ring is an innovative project proposed by Musk in 2019 and unveiled in April 2021, using Tesla's Model 3 and Model X cars to transport passengers in underground tunnels to connect popular attractions in Las Vegas.

This mode of transportation saves both cost and time. In less than two years of operation, the Vegas Ring Line has already served 1 million passengers, costing only $10 for 7.89km (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 69 yuan). Initial forecasts show that the ring line can carry more than 4400 passengers per hour and is expected to reach 20,000 passengers per hour in the future.

The Vegas Ring was originally envisioned as an underground transportation system with 29 miles of tunnels and 51 stops. Now, with the approval of the Clark County Board of Governors in Nevada, it will be expanded to 65 miles (about 104.61 kilometers) and 69 sites.

Clark County commissioners approved the plan by 6:1 after the company's lawyer, Stephanie Allen, ensured that the company, not the taxpayers, would pay for the project, TechCrunch reported.

The only dissenting vote came from Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who raised the question that the public transport system only serves tourists, without considering resorts and employees. Obviously, Kirkpatrick commissioners often receive phone calls from residents of their administrative districts because it is becoming more and more difficult for them to get to work because of the construction of the tunnel. Boring company lawyers say the company plans to expand its range of services to meet the needs of residents and employees.

The Vegas Ring has multiple stations on the Las Vegas Strip, including various casinos, Harry Reed International Airport, Ariant Stadium, and so on. The fare depends on the itinerary, and the boring company says the 4.9-mile journey from Harry Reed International Airport to the Las Vegas Convention and Exhibition Center takes just five minutes and costs $10 (currently about 69 yuan).

The company plans to dig more tunnels to connect the network to Harry Reed International Airport, loyalty Stadium, downtown Las Vegas and even Los Angeles. According to TechCrunch, the newly approved stations are mainly located on the Las Vegas Strip near the airport, as well as Chinatown, Las Vegas City Square and Harmon Square.
