CTOnews.com May 4 news, according to the latest report released by cyber security company Barracuda, 45.7% of HTML attachments scanned in March 2023 contain malicious files. By contrast, only 21% of the data were scanned in May last year.

Malicious HTML attachments are still the main way to distribute malicious files, and attackers can deceive users by using specially crafted messages, infected websites, and malicious HTML file attachments.

HTML is a hypertext markup language that is used to create and build content that is displayed online. HTML is also often used for e-mail communications, for example, users can receive regular reports on newsletters, marketing materials, and so on. In many cases, the report is attached to the email in HTML format (the file extension is .html, .htm, or .xhtml).

Daily test data for three months from January 2023 to March 2023 show that March 7 and March 23 are the peak days of attack.

On March 7, a total of 672145 malicious HTML attachments were detected, of which 181176 were different, accounting for 27%.

On March 23, a total of 475938 malicious HTML attachments were detected, of which 405438 were different, accounting for 85%.
