Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens ThinkBou and Terrence for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, May 3 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft today announced a major overhaul of the OneDrive web version, which is aimed at working and learning users. Some of the features are similar to the OneDrive consumer version, but most of the new features have not yet been released.

Microsoft wrote in the announcement article: "the new OneDrive experience for work and learning starts from the OneDrive home page and covers the file experience across Microsoft 365. This is a visual and functional upgrade designed to help you quickly access files and keep the content organized in a variety of ways without any need for you to clean up. New features and upgraded designs give you faster access to all personal, shared, and team files in OneDrive, resulting in increased productivity. "

A revision of the OneDrive home page is already available, but most of the new features are still under development. For example, the "For you" section, similar to the current OneDrive consumer version, will display file recommendations provided by artificial intelligence at the top of the home page view. The new "shared" view will show the files you work on with your partners; Microsoft says the feature will be launched "this quarter". The new people and meeting views will allow you to view files in a context-specific manner, both of which will be launched later this year.

The recent section of the home page now allows users to view all files, or by Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF file category. Future users will be able to filter views and then search for specific types of files. Microsoft will also add the ability to change the color of any folder later this year. Files marked "favorites" by users in the Microsoft 365 application will appear in the new favorites view. Later this year, users will also be able to create shortcut links to files in OneDrive.

For sharing, Microsoft is adopting the unified file sharing experience used in Microsoft 365, with a clearer "copy link" experience. But this feature won't come until later this year.

Microsoft will also bring all these updates to the OneDrive app in Microsoft Teams by the end of this year.

Perhaps the biggest change has to do with desktop integration: the OneDrive web version will support offline use "soon" and will add an "open in application" option for non-Office file types (such as PDF, images, videos, etc.), which will be launched "in OneDrive and SharePoint web versions as well as Microsoft Teams later this year".

Microsoft did not say whether these features would be rolled out to OneDrive Consumer Edition, but CTOnews.com guessed that they would, given the shared code base.
