CTOnews.com Uri Herrera released Nitrux 2.8 at the end of April, a GNU / Linux distribution based on Debian and systemd-free, with a focus on KDE software and the Plasma desktop.

Nitrux 2.8 is powered by Liquorix's Linux 6.2 kernel family, zswap enabled by default, comes with the latest KDE Plasma 5.27.4 LTS desktop environment, and comes with KDE Frameworks 5.105 and KDE Gear 23.04 software suites.

The main change in Nitrux 2.8 is the inclusion by default of WayDroid, a container-based approach to launching the full Android system on regular GNU / Linux systems, which means users can now install and use Android apps on Nitrux-powered computers.

Nitrux version 2.8 also supports NFS sharing, tablets and 2-in-1 devices with touchscreens, Arabic and Bengali language support, and updated OpenRC and ZSH configurations thanks to the addition of Maliit keyboards.

Nitrux 2.8 also includes the fscrypt userland tool for managing Linux native file system encryption, and supports the F2FS file system, which now defaults to/home and/var/ lib partitions instead of XFS, which is still available for/root partitions.

In addition, there are now updated partition layouts in the Calamares installer to reflect these changes and better accommodate sandbox applications such as AppImage and Flatpak.

Among other things, the new Nitrux version tweaks Sysctl settings with custom files and adds pre-linking to slightly improve performance, increases the maximum number of open files or file descriptors (FD) by providing custom files, adds Mozc (using Fcitx5 ) for Japanese users, updates Mesa graphics stack to version 23.2-git, updates AMD Vulkan driver to version 2023.Q2.1, updates dmcrypt-openrc package.
