CTOnews.com May 3 news, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently released a report that global semiconductor sales in the first quarter of 2023 were $119.5 billion, down 8.7% from the previous quarter and 21.3% from the same period last year.

The SIA report integrates 99 per cent of the US semiconductor industry and nearly 2/3 of the revenue of non-US chip companies.

The report by John Neuffer, President and CEO of SIA, is as follows:

Affected by the market cycle and macroeconomic headwinds, semiconductor sales continued to decline in the first quarter of 2023, but March sales rose for the first time in nearly a year, stimulating market optimism and further recovery is expected in the coming months.

By market, semiconductor sales in Europe grew by 2.7% in March, Asia Pacific / all other countries by 2.6%, and China by 1.2%.

Sales in all markets declined in the quarter, with Europe down 0.7% year-on-year, Japan 2.3%, the Americas 16.4%, Asia Pacific / all other regions down 22.2%, and China 34.1%.
