The report points out that the cost of N4 and N5 processes at TSMC's US plant is about 20% to 30% higher; TSMC's Kumamoto plant in Japan produces 10% to 15% more chips on N28 / N22 and N16 / N12 nodes.

TSMC plans to pass on the high cost of making wafer plants in the US and Japan to customers to maintain its gross margin target of 53 per cent.

Us customers, including AMD and Nvidia, are continuing negotiations with TSMC and may transfer some orders to Samsung to balance the budget.

CTOnews.com also learned from the report that Nvidia will use Intel's 18A and 20A technology to make chips in addition to Samsung. But as chip design becomes more complex and expensive, it will be difficult for chip designers to order similar chips from TSMC and Samsung at the same time.
