CTOnews.com, May 2 (Xinhua) according to a new report released by cyber security company McAfee, more and more people are being deceived by artificial intelligence (AI) voice fraud. The survey found that 10% of adults have been targeted by this kind of fraud, and another 15% know that someone has been cheated.

Shockingly, AI only needs three seconds of audio to imitate anyone's voice. In this way, lawbreakers can use the technology to leave fake voicemails to victims or call them pretending to be their friends. Among the victims, 77 per cent said they lost money in the fraud, of which 1/3 lost more than $1000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 6930 yuan), and 7 per cent lost large sums of money between $5000 and $15000.

Steve Grobman, chief technology officer of McAfee, said: "artificial intelligence brings incredible opportunities, but any technology can be maliciously used. This is what we are seeing today, AI tools are becoming easier to obtain and use, and it also allows cyber criminals to fraud in ways that are more difficult to detect."

So, how can you protect yourself from this kind of fraud? McAfee gives some advice, first of all, it advises you to create a password with your contact so that you can use the password to confirm that the other person is a real person and not an AI fake. Another suggestion is to question the source. If you have doubts about the incoming call, you should hang up immediately and call back with your saved phone number, so that you can avoid being cheated.
