CTOnews.com, May 2, according to CCTV News, in Daocheng, Sichuan, the largest and most powerful solar radio imaging telescope in the world has been completed, and about 270 antennas have been debugged and are expected to run in June.

A huge circular antenna array has attracted people's attention on the plateau of Daocheng County, Sichuan Province. This is the most advanced solar radio imaging telescope in the world. It consists of 313 small antennas that can capture every movement of the sun like a super camera. CTOnews.com learned that the telescope is a landmark equipment for the second phase of the Meridian Project, a major national scientific and technological infrastructure, and is mainly used to observe solar activity and forecast and early warning space weather.

The sun is the source of life on earth, but it sometimes erupts violently, throwing out high-speed charged particles, posing a threat to earth's satellites and other equipment. In order to detect and warn the sun's "sneeze" in time, scientists designed this circular array telescope. It adopts unique circular configuration and original single-channel multi-loop absolute phase calibration technology, which can realize solar imaging observation with high precision, high quality and large field of view. It can detect electromagnetic waves within minutes of a solar burst and use the time difference to predict whether the solar burst will affect the Earth by tens of hours in advance.

In addition to observing the sun, the telescope can also make other radio astronomical observations at night, such as detecting pulsars, radio bursts and other celestial phenomena, and is also expected to serve asteroid defense and other fields. It will realize the interaction between heaven and earth with the solar exploration satellites "Xihe" and "Kuafu-1" launched in China, which will further enhance the ability of solar observation in China and lay a foundation for improving the accuracy of space weather forecast in China.
