Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com May 2 news, Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter CEO, is currently the world's second richest person-Elon Musk, there is an unknown title: the most active private jet user in the United States. A new report reveals how often Musk uses private jets, showing his carbon footprint is 132 times higher than the average American.

The report was published jointly by the Institute for Policy Studies and the Patriotic Millionaires Organization, which often calls for higher taxes on them. The report uses Wealth-X data to analyze the net worth of private jet owners, as well as user data from the Federal Aviation Administration, and public information about people like Musk.

Musk took a private jet every two days last year, consuming 837934 litres of jet fuel and emitting 2112 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the report found. He has also expanded his collection, owning four private jets and recently spending $78 million on a Gulfstream G700 to replace his existing Gulfstream G650ER.

Climate change is a global problem caused by humans, but certain individuals have a greater impact on the problem. The report says the rich emit at least 10 times more pollutants per passenger than regular flights. Because of the epidemic, the use of private jets has also increased dramatically in the past few years. This means that the richest 1 percent of the population has a huge carbon footprint, and the report suggests that 1 percent of the population may account for half of all aviation-related carbon emissions. Musk, as the leader of this 1%, also accounts for a large part of this small group.

The pollutants emitted by these rich people cost us all. The report recommends a tax on jet fuel that would cost Musk $3.94 million more in taxes. For Musk, that's pocket money, and even if he loses at least $20 billion buying Twitter, he still has a fortune of $187.1 billion (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 1.3 trillion yuan).

A 2022 Oxfam study found that the wealthiest billionaires emit a million times more carbon dioxide annually than 90 percent of the population. Billionaires also invest in companies that generate more emissions, Oxfam found, with billionaire investments generating the equivalent of France's carbon emissions in a year.

It's not just airplanes. The over-manicured gardens and swimming pools of the super-rich are also causing a water crisis. Leonardo DiCaprio's favourite yachts are also a huge source of carbon emissions, with a 2018 analysis of billionaires finding that two-thirds of their carbon emissions can be traced back to superyachts.

Busy dealing with Twitter, an increasingly buggy platform, Musk may be more on the air while juggling his other careers. A Washington Post analysis found that most of Musk's flights in 2018 were for work and some for family (both of which have increased in recent years). Musk's insistence on being present in person may also require him to use his private jet more, as he travels between companies to monitor employee attendance. Known for sleeping on the floor at Tesla factories and praising his high attendance, his solution to a troubled company seems to be to show up in person.

"Unless we were able to teleport, there was no alternative for him to do his job effectively," Tesla spokesman Dave Arnold once told The Washington Post.
