Samsung claims that in the node development stage, its production yield can be maintained in the range of 60-70%. It is worth mentioning that yield is critical to attracting customers, because the average big customer will first consider based on capacity, followed by wafer cost, and TSMC's capacity is now occupied by Apple.
Samsung has previously been criticized for its engineering division's controversy over "fabricating" good rates to win customer business in 2022. Samsung said it will focus on 3-nanometer production in 2023-2024, namely SF3 (3GAP) and its improved version SF3P (3GAP+), and the company plans to launch its 2-nanometer nodes from 2025 to 2026.
It is said that most of Samsung Electronics's orders come from Mobile and HPC, which need high-performance and low-power semiconductors, and the yield of the 3nm process is on a stable track than it was at the beginning of mass production. On April 30, TSMC held a North American wafer foundry technology symposium for major American customers and announced a production roadmap for the advanced process of next-generation wafer foundry. TSMC had planned to mass-produce N3E in the second half of this year, but has postponed it until next year. In addition, mass production of the further upgraded N3P and N3X will begin in 2025, and the N3A for the automotive industry will begin mass production in 2026.
