Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen South China Wu Yanzu for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com In response to the Ryzen 7000 X3D CPU burn event, AMD has released AGESA firmware to rescue these CPUs. 1.0.0.7 At present, brands such as ASUS have released BETA BIOS updates for AM5 motherboards to prevent AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs from burning due to voltage problems.

According to KEPC, AMD AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS firmware is not just a voltage limit, but has mandated that all Ryzen 7000 CPU users upgrade after the AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS update is released to avoid burn-out issues.

According to the motherboard manufacturer, the new firmware does not only limit the SOC voltage to 1.3V, but also modifies the PROCHOT Control and PROCHOT Deassertion Ramp Time mechanisms related to thermal limits. Ryzen 7000 X3D users must update to AGESA 1.0.0.7 BIOS as soon as possible.

PROCHOT Control is a safety feature related to CBS and SMU COMMON designed to avoid overheating the processor. When the temperature of the processor reaches a critical value, the CPU or other system component sends a PROCHOT signal. The processor is then powered down to reduce temperature and prevent possible losses. PROCHOT Deassertion Ramp Time is the definition of the time required for the processor to return to normal power after the PROCHOT overheat signal occurs. The time interval required for the processor to gradually increase its power and return to normal operation when the temperature returns below the threshold.

For now, AGESA 1.0.0.7 is more conservative in terms of PROCHOT, the voltage and temperature thresholds associated with PROCHOT and SOC / IMC will be greatly reduced, and the time interval between depletion and recovery will be longer. This means that CPU burn events are not only the cause of voltage, but may also include factors such as imperfect thermal management, but it will take some time to verify whether the problem is really solved.

Currently, major motherboard manufacturers have issued emergency BIOS updates, but only limit SOC voltage, so 1.0.0.7 is AMD's official solution. AMD has offered a BETA version for motherboard manufacturers to test internally, with an official release expected on May 6.

CTOnews.com translated AMD spokesperson's words as follows:

We have identified the root cause of the problem and have released a new AGESA to tighten certain power controls on the AM5 motherboard to prevent the CPU from operating beyond its specification limits, including setting the SOC voltage cap to 1.3V. None of these changes affect the ability of our Ryzen 7000 series processors to use EXPO or XMP suite overclock memory or use PBO technology to boost performance.

We expect all ODM partners to release new BIOS versions for their AM5 motherboards in the next few days. We recommend that all users check their motherboard manufacturer's website and update their BIOS to ensure their system has the latest firmware.

Any CPU users who may be affected by this issue should contact AMD Customer Service Support. Our customer service team is aware of this situation and prioritizes these cases.
