CTOnews.com, April 29 (Xinhua)-- Hollywood announced that "Super Mario Brothers Movie" topped $1 billion at the global box office on Sunday. (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 6.92 billion yuan), becoming the top box office in game adaptation film history. Box office figures for the weekend are not yet available, with $970 million worldwide as of Friday, including $483 million in North America and $487 million outside North America, including 140 million yuan in mainland China.

The Super Mario Brothers Movie, which was released in mainland China on April 5, was co-produced by Lighting Entertainment and Nintendo, directed by Aaron Horvath & Michael Gerenick ("Young Titan attack") and written by Matthew Vogel ("Little Yellow Man 2" and "Lego Movie 2").

CTOnews.com previously reported that Nintendo legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in an interview that Nintendo has more film plans in the pipeline after the Super Mario Brothers Movie. He says Nintendo has many other "actors" that can be used to make movies or animations. The film can be adapted in an appropriate way according to the characteristics and popularity of different characters.
