When you enter the dazzling wine section of the supermarket, when you want to buy a bottle of beer, do you choose canned beer or bottled beer? However, most people don't think like this when they buy, and it all depends on fate.

But for beer lovers, there is a big difference between the two! As a result, what to use to pack beer has always been a topic of debate between canned reformers and bottled conservatives.

(Tuyuan gifer) this is because beer is an alcoholic beverage made from cereal crop germination, starch hydrolysis and fermentation to produce sugar. most brewers also add materials such as hops, vanilla or fruit to change the flavor at different stages of the brewing process, giving each beer a unique flavor. These flavors include taste, aroma, color, transparency and texture, each of which plays an important role in people's experience of enjoying beer.

However, when transported all the way from the brewery to a pub or supermarket, many factors can affect the chemical composition of the beer and disappoint you when you drink it, such as temperature fluctuations, travel bumps, oxygen and natural metabolism. Therefore, the way beer is packaged determines the extent to which they are protected.

Beer brewing process | references [2] Beer cans are usually made of aluminum and coated with a thin layer of polymer (usually epoxy resin) to protect the liquid from metal contamination and aluminum from corrosion. The lid and the tank body form an airtight seal, but because the structure is weak, the air before the sealing of the aluminum can can be completely removed by vacuum, so the aluminum can is easy to slip into oxygen in the packaging process. The thermal insulation of thinner aluminum alloy is poor. At high temperature, beer will release gas to produce expansion, which affects the taste, and the stability of canned beer is poor. In contrast, beer bottles made of brown glass are harder, stronger, less prone to deformation and chemical reactions, and have good thermal insulation and stability, but there is still a risk of direct light.

In 2015, beer packaging was divided into 20 per cent canned and 80 per cent bottled. By 2020, that proportion had risen to 80 per cent canned and 20 per cent bottled, a dramatic counterattack. Is it scientific? Is it canned or bottled? The researchers are going to do an experiment.

Cold beer with Zibo small barbecue. comfortable! | Kathryn Fromuth and Jacquelin Chaparro, researchers at gifer Colorado State University, bought the same batch of IPA and APA from New Belgium Brewery. The two wines were packed in aluminum cans and brown bottles, respectively, mimicking the storage conditions of commercially available beer: refrigerated (3 °C) for 30 days and then stored at room temperature (20 °C) for 150 days. Then, for six months, the researchers opened a can and a bottle of two styles of beer every two weeks and analyzed their metabolites to see how canned and bottled beer decomposed or formed new compounds during aging. The study was published in ACS Food Science & Technology.

The results showed that APA showed significant metabolic differences among different packages. Specifically, bottled APA maintains a higher ester concentration. Esters are compounds produced by yeast metabolism, which can make beer fruity and flavor, but at the same time, esters are very volatile. Therefore the researchers concluded that the difference in APA was due to lax sealing of cans and that beer metabolites and their stability were significantly affected by the type of packaging.

(source reference [1]) in contrast, the metabolites of canned and bottled IPA change much less. The researchers speculate that the reason for this difference is that IPA contains a large amount of antioxidant polyphenols. Because polyphenols have antioxidant properties, they help to lock flavor compounds in beer by preventing oxidation. Although both APA and IPA brew styles include hops in their recipes, IPA is undoubtedly the beer with a higher amount of hops, which is also closely related to the brewing history of IPA.

Although IPA (India Pale Ale) is called Indian Light Ayre, its original origin is not in India, but in England like many other beers. In the 18th century, Britain traded beer extensively with colonies all over the world. Due to the shaking during shipping and tropical temperature conditions, the taste of beer in the temperate maritime climate of its origin was destroyed to some extent. Beer shipped to India often deteriorated before landing. Due to the lack of aseptic and cold storage technology, brewers add a large number of hops and use the hop resin α-acid and β-acid produced in the cones to kill harmful microorganisms and prolong the preservation time.

Bow Brewery Brewery, the birthplace of Ipa [2] even though we know that bottled beer can better preserve the flavor of beer, and taste is the main reason for people to taste beer, there are still many factors for brewers to consider when determining whether canned or bottled beer is packaged. For example, winemakers must consider the cost of their products and the mode of transportation.

Because glass bottles are heavier and require stronger secondary packaging, their transportation costs may be higher. On the other hand, aluminum cans can be recycled twice, and the recovery rate is higher, while the environmental waste produced during glass production and the recovery cost are higher.

Perhaps there is never the right answer to the debate between cans and bottles, and the taste of beer may have changed since the beginning of the packaging.
