Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, April 28, IPv6 can not only provide massive address resources, but also provide basic support for network capability improvement, technological innovation and industrial upgrading. It is globally recognized as the next generation Internet business application solution, and global IPv6 deployment is accelerating.

China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) is a national IP address allocation management organization, which promotes and assists Chinese Internet enterprises to apply for IPv6 addresses on demand, so as to achieve continuous growth in the number of CNNIC IPv6 address allocation. According to the report, as of March 2023, the number of IPv6 addresses allocated by CNNIC exceeded 28700 per 32, accounting for about 44 per cent of the total IPv6 addresses in China.

In order to lower the threshold for upgrading the basic network of small and medium-sized enterprises, CNNIC continues to reduce the cost of enabling IPv6 addresses. On the basis of uniformly reducing the annual fee for the use of IPv6 addresses by 50% in 2020, the "Internet basic Resources enabling millions of small and medium-sized Enterprises Digitalization campaign" was launched this year, and once again launched a new policy to reduce the fees for the use of IPv6 addresses, that is, from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, for IPv6 address allocation, members will only hold / 32 IPv6 addresses after new application or renewal, waiving 40% of the annual IPv6 address use fee.

The Central Network Information Office, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently jointly issued the "work schedule for further promoting IPv6 scale deployment and Application 2023" (see here). By the end of 2023, the number of IPv6 active users has reached 750 million, the number of IPv6 connections to the Internet of things has reached 300 million, fixed network IPv6 traffic accounts for 15%, and mobile network IPv6 traffic accounts for 55%.

According to the statistics of the national IPv6 development monitoring platform, in February 2023, China's mobile network IPv6 accounted for 50.08%, achieving a historic breakthrough in mobile network IPv6 traffic exceeding IPv4 traffic for the first time, marking a new milestone in promoting IPv6 scale deployment and application in China.

CTOnews.com Note: IP address is an important basic resource of the Internet, and it is the basis of identification and data transmission of each system of the Internet. IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) supports the vigorous development of the Internet. The address length is 32 bits and can provide about 4 billion addresses. By the end of 2019, "4.3 billion IPv4 addresses have been officially allocated worldwide."

IPv6 can provide as many as 2 to the 128th power of addresses, which can "allocate every grain of sand in the world to an IP address" to comprehensively solve the problem of IP address exhaustion.
