CTOnews.com April 28 news, General Motors recently launched the open source software protocol uProtocol, and issued an invitation to other car manufacturers and developers, hoping to jointly improve the car software. GE also joined the Eclipse Foundation,"the world's largest open source software organization."

GM created uProtocol to simplify connectivity between automotive systems, cloud and mobile devices.

CTOnews.com translated GM Chief Architect Frank Ghenassia's press release as follows: "Not only the automotive industry, but other related industries can adopt similar software sharing methods to achieve greater industry interoperability."

GM plans to launch Ultifi software platform later this year, offering OTA updates and in-vehicle subscription services to increase brand dependency.
