CTOnews.com, April 28, according to statistics released by market research firm IDC, global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2023 were 2.686 billion units, down 14.6% from the same period last year and the seventh consecutive quarter of decline.

The report points out that there was a double-digit decline in almost all markets in the world in the first quarter of 2023, with a domestic decline of nearly 12%. Developed markets such as the United States and Western Europe outperformed other markets, falling 11.5% and 9.4%, respectively. Sales in emerging markets fell the most, between 17 per cent and 20 per cent.

By brand segment, Samsung regained its lead with 22.5% of the global smartphone market, while Apple slipped to second place with 20.5%. Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo ranked third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Among them, Xiaomi's shipments fell the most, with a drop of more than 23.5%.
