Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 28 (Xinhua)-- Mercedes-Benz launched a subscription service called accelerated upgrade (Acceleration Increase) in North America last year, which can improve the acceleration performance of its electric cars EQE and EQS through software upgrades without any physical modification.
Mercedes-Benz recently announced the latest pricing for the subscription service, starting at $60 a month or paying $600 a year (currently about 4158 yuan), down from $1200 before. This price only applies to all-wheel drive EQE 350s and SUV, while the higher-end all-wheel drive EQS 450s and SUV sedans cost $90 a month (or $900a year) to enjoy the service.
Mercedes-Benz also offers an one-time payment option that allows users to permanently unlock acceleration enhancements, priced at $1950 for the EQE and $2950 for the EQS. For those who choose to subscribe monthly, if they own the car for more than three years, the fee they pay is equivalent to the price of an one-time unlock. It seems that Mercedes-Benz's pricing model is designed for users who rent cars for a short period of time or just want to show off their performance temporarily.
According to Mercedes-Benz, this feature can increase the acceleration and motor output of electric vehicles by 20% to 24%. The total output of the EQE increased from 215kW to 260kW, and the time of 0-60 mph (0-96 km / h) was reduced from 6 seconds to 5.1 seconds (sedan) or 5.2 seconds (SUV). On the other hand, the EQS increased from 265kW to 330kW, and the time of 0-60mph was reduced from 5.3s to 4.5s (sedan) or 4.9s (SUV).
The practice of carmakers adding subscription services to vehicles is becoming a disturbing trend. Tesla is one step ahead in this respect, offering a $3250 unlock option to allow some older Model S models to use full battery capacity. Recently, other automakers have set seat heating to software locking and subscription services, such as Tesla, BMW and Smart. EQE and EQS ye are not the only electric vehicles whose performance is artificially limited and unlocked for a fee. Polestar also offers an one-time payment of $1195, and Tesla has a similar performance unlocking feature.
The software payment model has caused dissatisfaction among some consumers who see it as an unfair restriction on electric cars. Mercedes-Benz said that this model can give users more choice and flexibility, but also can reduce the starting price of some models. Currently, the subscription service is only available in the United States and Europe, and it is not clear whether it will be launched in other markets.
