According to the report, Intel's revenue in the first quarter was $11.7 billion, down 36% from $18.4 billion in the same period last year, and a net loss of $2.8 billion, compared with a net profit of $8.1 billion in the same period last year. Adjusted net loss, which is not in accordance with US GAAP, was US $200 million, compared with US GAAP adjusted net profit of US $3.6 billion in the same period last year.

CTOnews.com noted that despite a big decline in results, Intel's adjusted earnings per share and revenue in the first quarter were still better than Wall Street analysts expected.

By department, Intel customer computing group's first-quarter net revenue was $5.767 billion, compared with $9.322 billion a year earlier, down 38% from $520 million, compared with $2.722 billion a year earlier. Of this total, revenue from the desktop business was $1.879 billion, compared with $2.641 billion a year earlier; revenue from the notebook business was $3.407 billion, compared with $5.959 billion a year earlier; and revenue from other businesses was $481 million, compared with $722 million a year earlier.

Intel's data center and artificial intelligence group had revenue of $3.718 billion in the first quarter, compared with $6.074 billion a year earlier, down 39% from an operating loss of $518 million and an operating profit of $1.393 billion a year earlier.

Intel Networks and Fringe groups had revenue of $1.489 billion in the first quarter, compared with $2.139 billion a year earlier, down 30% from a year earlier, with an operating loss of $300 million and an operating profit of $416 million a year earlier.

Mobileye, Intel's self-driving unit, had revenue of $458 million in the first quarter, up 16% from $394 million a year earlier, and an operating profit of $123 million, compared with $148 million a year earlier.

Intel's contract manufacturing services division (Intel Foundry Services) had revenue of $118 million in the first quarter, compared with $156 million a year earlier, down 24% from an operating loss of $140 million, compared with an operating loss of $23 million a year earlier.

Intel's revenue from all other businesses in the first quarter was $165 million, compared with $268 million a year earlier, and an operating loss of $1.153 billion, compared with an operating loss of $315 million a year earlier.
