Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, April 27. Last November, a source @ Kepler revealed that AMD is developing a small APU called "Phoenix 2", which is a "small version" of Phoenix. Existing developers found the chip in the list of Github ROCm development tools.

AMD's Phoenix 2 ASIC is listed directly below the Phoenix 1 APU, while Phoenix 1 APU is a new product just launched this week. This series of APU uses "GFX1103" RDNA 3 GPU, which means that the graphics part will be similar to the existing Phoenix APU.

The AMD Phoenix 2 APU confirms that the dual Zen 4 hybrid architecture, supplemented by the RDNA 3 GPU, is suitable for low-power and efficient devices.

According to Coelacanth-Dream, AMD Phoenix APU has two GFX1103 "RDNA 3" ID, one of which is GFX1103_R1, which has a full 512 KB secondary cache, while the second GFX1103_R2 has only 256 KB.

AMD may feel that the low-power mobile platform does not need so much secondary cache, so it will be castrated to half of the original in the new revised version, and OEM manufacturers are expected to use it for entry-level platforms to replace Mendocino APU and may also be used for handheld phones.

Compared to Intel's large and small cores (integrating two different processor architectures), AMD uses the Zen 4 architecture, which is based on the same instruction set, but differs in power consumption and frequency.

In addition, there are reports that "Phoenix 2" will use two full-blooded Zen4 cores and four low-power Zen4C cores for background tasks. The RDNA 3 GPU has been reduced from six WGP (12 CU) to two (4 CU), and the TDP has dropped from "35W +" to a maximum of 28W.

It is not clear when AMD plans to release the series of chips, but it is reported that AMD will launch the RX 7600 XT graphics card on May 25, so other content, such as processors, may be on display at the Taipei computer Show 2023 from May 30 to June 2. CTOnews.com will bring you more reports then.
