CTOnews.com, April 27 (Xinhua)-- Qualcomm today officially launched Snapdragon Super Resolution (Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, or GSR), a new feature that can improve the picture quality and frame rate of Android mobile games, while extending the battery life of the phone. GSR technology is part of Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Game (Snapdragon Elite Gaming), a platform that provides many desktop-level gaming features for mobile games, including ultra-high refresh rates of 144FPS, real 10-bit HDR color, real-time hardware accelerated ray tracing, support for the latest Unreal engine 5, and more.

GSR technology is a single-channel spatial sensing super-resolution technology, developed by Qualcomm Snapdragon Studio, which can achieve the best super picture quality improvement while ensuring the best performance and energy saving. It uses range-based dynamic scaling and is optimized for Snapdragon Adreno graphics processing unit (GPU). Compared with other image quality improvement schemes on mobile devices, GSR technology has twice the performance improvement.

CTOnews.com learned from Qualcomm officials that the principle of GSR technology is to improve low-resolution game pictures to high resolution through intelligent algorithms, thus saving rendering computation. In this way, games that can only be run at 1080p resolution can be upgraded to 4K resolution without losing picture detail and sharpness. At the same time, games that could only reach 30 frames per second can be raised to 60 frames or more, making the picture smoother. And because the performance is proportional to the power consumption, the use of GSR technology can also extend battery life and game time.

Qualcomm said that a number of games under development will support GSR technology, including Activision's popular game call of Duty: war Zone Mobile (Call of Duty Warzone Mobile), as well as "Jade Dynasty: New Fantasy", "return to the Empire" (Return to Empire), "Naraka Mobile" and so on.
