CTOnews.com Microsoft has announced a major change, unifying the domain name for all of its Microsoft 365 apps and services, including Office apps, Teams, Outlook and more, to cloud.microsoft. In the past, users needed to use different domain names to access these products and services, causing confusion and inconvenience.

Microsoft said in a blog post that this change will bring the following benefits to users:

Improve the user experience by reducing login prompts, redirects, and delays, allowing users to switch between different apps more smoothly.

Reduce the complexity of administrators 'work and reduce the list of domain names that need to be allowed to access, thereby improving tenant security while enabling users to access the applications and services they need to get their work done.

CTOnews.com learned from the official blog that Microsoft chose "cloud" as the domain name because it is a "persistent, extensible, neutral" term that covers a variety of online services that may use it in the future. While today's announcement only covers Microsoft 365 apps and services, Microsoft hinted at the possibility of expanding the cloud.microsoft domain name to other online services in the future.

Microsoft says only "net-new services" currently use www.example.com. cloud.microsoft In most cases, customers do not need to make any changes to their existing Microsoft 365 services. Microsoft plans to notify customers at least 30 days in advance if any of its existing services require them to make some adjustments so they can take action accordingly.
