Samsung SDI has announced on its website that it plans to build a joint venture battery plant in the United States, but not with South Korean automakers, but with General Motors, and the two companies have agreed to build a joint venture battery plant in the United States.

According to the announcement on Samsung SDI's website, the joint venture battery plant they plan to build with GM in the United States will invest more than $3 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 20.79 billion yuan), plan annual production capacity 30GWh, and aim to start mass production in 2026.

In building a joint venture battery plant, GM chairman and CEO Maribara said that their electric vehicle supply chain strategy focuses on scalability, resilience, sustainability and cost competitiveness, and that the partnership with Samsung SDI will help them achieve these goals, and the batteries jointly built by the two companies will help them increase their annual production capacity of electric vehicles in North America to more than 1 million vehicles.
