Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 26 (Xinhua)-- the European Union on Tuesday released a list of "super-large" online platforms and search engines, including 19 technology giants such as Apple and Amazon, which means they will face stricter regulation and higher fines.
At the end of 2020, the European Union proposed a new legislation on how regulators should strengthen their supervision of technology giants. Under the Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into effect four months ago, regulators can review the content to reduce harmful comments and set rules for the use of artificial intelligence.
CTOnews.com is accompanied by a list of companies that will be subject to stricter controls under the Digital Services Act released by the European Union on Tuesday:
Express Express, owned by Alibaba
Amazon Mall
Apple App Store
Booking.com
Google Play
Google Maps
Google Shopping
Snapchat
TikTok
Wikipedia
YouTube
Zalando
Bing
Google search
These platforms now have four months to comply with the rules of the Digital Services Act, including providing netizens with information on why they are recommended to certain sites or other details, and the possibility of exit.
All advertisements on these platforms must also indicate who paid for them, and contracts with terms and conditions must have an "easy to understand" summary and use the different languages of the country in which they operate.
Failure to implement these measures could lead to a fine of up to 6 per cent of the company's global turnover, which could eventually lead to a temporary ban on operations in the region.
European regulators have previously warned Elon Musk, chief executive of Twitter, that his company needs to do a lot of work to comply with the new rules.
Thierry Thierry Breton, EU internal market commissioner, said these companies "will not be able to act as if they are too big to care". "for 19 very large online platforms and search engines, the countdown has begun and they must fully comply with the special obligations imposed on them by the Digital Services Act," he added in a statement on Tuesday. "
This is the first time that the EU has formally recognized which companies will be subject to stricter controls under the Digital Services Act, but more companies are likely to be added to the list in the future.
