CTOnews.com, April 26 (Xinhua)-- Britain's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) recently proposed a new bill that would impose billions of pounds in fines on large technology companies such as Apple and Google if they violate its rules.

The aim of the bill is to give CMA more authority and penalties to solve the problem of "excessive monopoly" (excessive dominance) of technology companies to further promote competition and protect consumers, according to a press release issued by British officials.

CMA's press release does not specify which companies with "strategic market positions" will be monitored, but companies with global turnover of more than 25 billion pounds (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 215 billion yuan) and turnover of more than 1 billion pounds (currently about 8.6 billion yuan) in the UK will be regulated, and Apple, Google and Amazon are likely to fall into this category.

The UK may require these companies to increase the transparency of their app stores and censorship systems, and the agency will have the right to open specific markets on a case-by-case basis.

For example, Apple will be required to open up third-party app stores to allow iPhone and iPad users to download apps and games from other app stores.
