CTOnews.com, April 25, according to BYD's official announcement, BYD Chile recently reached an agreement with the Chilean production Promotion Council (CORFO) on the production of lithium battery materials, announcing that BYD has obtained the production qualification and factory license for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials in Chile.

In August 2022, the Chilean Council for the Promotion of production (CORFO) invited enterprises to provide proposals on how to develop high value-added products of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide in Chile. Recently, BYD successfully won the bid to become the manufacturer designated by the Chilean production Promotion Council, and can obtain the supply of raw materials produced by the Chilean Mining and Chemical Group at an advantageous price, reaching 11244 tons per year before 2030.

In addition, BYD also signed a contract to build a lithium cathode material factory in the Antofagasta (Antofagasta) region of northern Chile. The plant has a planned annual output of 50, 000 tons and a total investment of more than $290 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 2.001 billion yuan). It plans to officially start operation by the end of 2025 and create 500 local jobs.

In 2017, BYD's first pure electric bus entered Santiago, Chile. In December 2022, BYD announced a partnership with local car dealer group ASTARA to provide BYD new energy passenger car products for the Chilean market.
