As of April 20, the popularity of domestic ticket search during the May Day holiday in 2023 exceeded more than 29% in the same period in 2022 and returned to 110% in the same period in 2019. The popularity of hotel market search in the "May Day Golden week" has reached more than 9 times in May 1 in 2022, an increase of nearly 200% compared with the same period in 2019.

CTOnews.com obtained from the forecast report that in terms of age distribution, according to the booking data as of April 19, tourist orders accounted for 35% of post-May Day holiday, 35% of post-90s, 30% of post-80s, and 26% of post-80s. The post-00s generation surpassed the post-90s generation for the first time to become the "main force" of holiday tourism.

In terms of gender, women currently account for 64% of travel bookings, up 9 percentage points from 57% in 2019. According to air ticket booking data, orders for parent-child travel during the May Day holiday in 2023 accounted for nearly 40%, an increase of 59% compared with 2019.

Travel orders in International Labour Day's fifth-tier cities this year are 157 per cent higher than in 2019, according to the Ctrip forecast. By comparing the order ranking of May Day cities this year with that in 2019, the report released 20 places of popular dark horses for May Day. They are Changxing County, Mangshi City, Zibo, Xianju, Wanning, Xichang, Yining City, Xiapu County, Antu County, Liping County, Liuzhou, Pingtan, Jingdezhen, Taizhou, Yancheng, Zhangzhou, Yibin, Tonglu, Rizhao and Nanao County.

Overall tourism orders in Zibo increased by 441% compared with 2019, with the main tourist sources in Beijing, Jinan, Qingdao, Tianjin, Yantai, Shanghai, Weifang, Shijiazhuang, Dongying and Weihai. The age of tourists accounts for 35% of post-00, post-90, 35%, post-80, 20%.

As of April 19, May Day long-term travel orders accounted for nearly 70%, 6 percentage points higher than in 2019. From the number of days of staying in the hotel, the proportion of people staying for 3 days and 4 days has increased, of which the proportion of people staying for 4 days has increased most significantly, an increase of 5 percentage points compared with the same period in 2019.

According to the data of Ctrip hotel, the popular reservation destinations of May 1 hotels this year are concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta, Chengdu-Chongqing and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, while the Pearl River Delta and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration ranks the second echelon, and the inter-regional concentration effect is obvious.

Driven by Zibo barbecue, the number of night bookings in Zibo city during the May Day holiday increased by 1890% compared with 2019. In Yibin, Jinzhou and Yanji, which are also famous for barbecue, the number of night bookings increased by 780%, 570% and 330% respectively compared with the same period in 2019.

During the May Day period this year, the popularity of outbound ticket search returned to 120% compared with the same period in 2019, and the popularity of outbound hotel search returned to about 70% compared with the same period in 2019. In terms of the distribution of outbound travel destinations, 66% of flight intentions are concentrated in Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region. Compared with 2019, Southeast Asia grew by more than 50%. Judging from the air ticket data, the source of outbound passengers mainly comes from the first-tier cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen and some provincial capitals. Shanghai, in particular, contributed 30 per cent of outbound orders. In addition, Suzhou and Wuxi are also on the list of the top 10 sources of outbound tourists.
