Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, April 24 (Xinhua)-- the UK tested a new emergency alarm service for the first time nationwide on April 24, local time. Most mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets in the UK received test alerts at the same time, but some mobile phones failed to receive alarms.
The test is designed to test a system that warns people in dangerous situations, such as fires, floods or terrorist attacks. The alarm service was tested at 3: 00 p.m. local time on the 23rd, and the government sent an emergency alert through the mobile network. Most 4G and 5G phones and tablets in the UK sound sirens like sirens, the alarm lasts for about 10 seconds, and the words "critical alarm" are displayed on the device.
However, CTOnews.com noted that many people reported on social media that they did not receive the alert or received it one minute earlier or later than planned.
A spokesman for the Cabinet Office admitted that some phones did not receive the alert and said: "We will take this issue as part of our review of the test results." The department also said engineers had found a problem with some phones that malfunctioned after receiving an alarm. At present, officials are in the preliminary stage of analyzing the test results.
Many users of the operator Three's mobile network said they did not receive the alert. "We know that some customers have not received test alerts," a spokesman for operator Three said later. "We are working closely with the government to understand why and to ensure that this does not happen when the system is officially used."
The UK government has previously warned that users of 2G or 3G devices will not receive the alert, nor will phones with their phones turned off or in flight mode. In addition, users need to make sure that their phones have the latest software updates, including iPhone running iOS 14.5 or later and Android phones and tablets running Android 11 or later.
Users who do not want to receive alerts in the future can choose to exit through device settings. Oliver Dowden, Britain's deputy prime minister, warned in advance that the alarm would be "a little inconvenient and annoying" and "exasperating".
The British government also warned drivers not to pick up their phones during the test, as it is still illegal. Drivers with mobile phones while driving will face a deduction of six points and a fine of 200 pounds.
