Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen ThinkBou for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, April 23 (Xinhua) Microsoft President Brad Smith (Brad Smith) said in an interview with Nikkei Asia Review in Tokyo that Chinese research institutions and enterprises will become important competitors for ChatGPT. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chat robot developed by OpenAI, and Microsoft is the largest investor in OpenAI.
Smith said China will not lag behind US tech giants such as Amazon and Google in the development of generative artificial intelligence (generative AI). Generative artificial intelligence is a technology that can generate content such as text and images. This technology has great potential in the fields of business, art, education and health care, but it also raises some concerns. For example, it may replace many jobs, spread misinformation, infringe copyright, disclose privacy and sensitive information, and so on.
"We see three institutions at the absolute forefront," Smith said. "one is OpenAI and Microsoft, the second is Google, and the third is the Beijing Institute of artificial Intelligence." In terms of innovation, "who is ahead and who is behind may change at different times of the year, but one thing is absolutely the same: the gap is almost always measured in months rather than years," he said. " He called the competition "very fierce".
Smith believes that the solution to the problems that this technology may bring is not to stop innovation, but to use and improve existing products. Like other technologies, artificial intelligence can be both a tool and a weapon, he said, citing cyber attacks as an example.
"We should definitely assume that some countries will use artificial intelligence to launch more powerful cyber attacks and cyber influence operations, even more powerful than what we see today," he warned. "We have found that when technology is innovative, it can actually enhance defensive capabilities, not offensive capabilities."
CTOnews.com noted that Smith's visit to Japan coincided with a meeting of the Group of Seven industrial countries in Japan. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has said that Japan will lead the development of rules in artificial intelligence. Earlier this month, Kishida also met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss how to protect the privacy and security of users.
On the commercial side, Japan has begun to use ChatGPT technology. The country's three largest banks are using it to lighten their workload, such as answering internal inquiries and reducing paperwork. Insurance companies such as Tokyo Marine are developing an artificial intelligence system based on the ChatGPT platform to provide draft answers to inquiries for policyholders and insurance agents.
Mr Smith said the technology could address one of the biggest challenges facing Asia: labour shortages. "the working-age population must support more people who have retired and are dependent on economic growth in the working population. We urgently need to find new sources of productivity growth," he said. "there is no other way to increase GDP."
