CTOnews.com, April 21 (Xinhua)-- more and more mobile phone manufacturers are committed to providing long-term support for their devices, including three to five years of operating system or security updates. The support provided by the Dutch company Fairphone is longer.

The Fairphone 2, a Snapdragon 801 chip smartphone launched in 2015, received its final (official) update in March this year, meaning it has been supported for about seven years. The company's next phone, the Fairphone 3, is undergoing a major operating system update four years after its release.

Fairphone 3 began shipping in 2019 and Fairphone 3 + was launched the following year. Both phones (CTOnews.com) initially ran Android 9 software and were later updated to Android 11.

Fairphone is now launching the Android 13 Beta system for both phones, and all users will receive updates by June 2023.

This means that the update will bring all the new features of Android 12 and Android 13 to the phone, including enhanced security, privacy, performance and power management features, as well as UI updates.

Fairphone said it will continue to provide updates for the Fairphone 3 series at least until August 2024, and at least additional support will be provided after that until 2026.

Fairphone's latest phone, the Fairphone 4, will be released in 2021 and should be supported at least until the end of 2025.
