CTOnews.com news on April 20, TSMC announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2023, with consolidated revenue of about NT $508.63 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about NT $114.442 billion), net profit after tax of about NT $206.9 billion (currently about NT $46.552 billion), and earnings per share of NT $7.98 (equivalent to US $1.31 per American depositary receipt).

Compared with the same period in 2022, revenue in the first quarter of 2023 increased by 3.6%, and net income after tax and earnings per share increased by 2.1%, the smallest quarterly increase in nearly four years, but still exceeded market expectations. Compared with the previous quarter, revenue in the first quarter of 2023 decreased by 18.7%, while net profit after tax decreased by 30.0%. The above financial figures are those in the consolidated financial statements and are prepared in accordance with the International Financial reporting Standards (TIFRS) approved by the FSC.

In US dollar terms, revenue in the first quarter of 2023 was 16.7 billion 20 million yuan, down 4.8% from the same period in 2021 and 16.1% from the previous quarter.

In the first quarter of 2023, the gross profit margin was 56.3%, the operating profit rate was 45.5%, and the after-tax net profit rate was 40.7%.

5 nano process shipments accounted for 31% of TSMC's wafer sales in the first quarter of 2023. Overall, revenue from advanced processes (including 7 nanometers and more) reached 51% of the wafer sales value for the whole quarter.
