CTOnews.com, April 20 (Xinhua) the Wall Street Journal published an article in February this year revealing a new type of theft against iPhone users; the media released another report today, further revealing how thieves used Apple's recovery key option to permanently lock iPhone users' Apple ID accounts.

CTOnews.com has previously reported that this new type of theft is mainly carried out in the following ways:

Thieves monitor iPhone users in public places such as bars to get the passwords they enter.

Then aim at the target and steal the iPhone.

The report released today mentions additional steps that thieves can take: set or reset the recovery key (randomly generated 28-character code) on the stolen device. Once the thief is enabled, it means that users will never be able to get their own iPhone phones back.

A recovery key is a randomly generated string of 28 characters that can be used to help reset passwords or regain access to Apple ID. Although the recovery key is not required, using the recovery key gives you control over password reset, thereby improving the security of your account.
