Beijing time on April 19 evening news, British antitrust regulator "Competition and Markets Authority"(CMA) said today, Google has proposed to allow developers to use third-party payment options in the Google Play App Store.

Last June, the CMA launched an antitrust investigation into Google for requiring app developers to make in-app purchases using Google's own payment system. CMA believes that Google's restrictive behavior hinders fair competition and harms consumers 'interests.

PixabayCMA said today that Google has made a new proposal to address this concern, allowing app developers to offer different payment options, allowing users to choose between third-party payment systems and Google Play payment systems.

Ann Pope, CMA senior director of antitrust, said: "It's great to see that our investigation has led Google to offer in-app payment freedom to thousands of app developers. But at the same time, we need to ensure that that commitment works in practice. "

To that end, CMA is evaluating and consulting on whether Google's new proposal is adequate until May 19. Google says it will continue to listen to feedback and invest in helping developers thrive on Google Play.

According to CMA data, Google Play accounts for more than 90% of all app downloads for Android devices in the UK. In addition to the UK, Google also allows some developers in the EU to use third-party payment systems to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act.
