However, this means that it should not be too far to support the AVIF format in the stable version of Edge.

Like AV1 coding, AVIF can provide more efficient coding than other more common image formats. Google Chrome browser first supported the AVIF format in Chrome 85, followed by Mozilla, which added support to Firefox 93, which was released in October 2021. In 2022, Google added AVIF image support to the Chrome 103version, and Apple followed suit in the Safari version 16.0of iOS 16.
