The 25 Institute of the second Academy of Aerospace Science and Industry of China has completed the first real-time wireless communication experiment of terahertz (THz) orbital angular momentum in China.
The 25 institute uses high-precision spiral phase plate antenna to realize four different beam modes in the 110GHz band, and completes 100Gbps wireless real-time transmission on the transmission bandwidth of 10GHz through four-mode synthesis, which maximizes the bandwidth utilization and provides important guarantee and support for the development of 6G communication technology in our country.
With the increasing demand for communication rate, the mobile communication band is extended to millimeter wave and higher terahertz band, which is also the main research direction of global 6G network. In the classification of electromagnetic waves, terahertz wave lies between "electric waves" such as microwave and millimeter wave and "light" such as visible light. Usually, the frequency range is 100GHz-10THz, and the wavelength range is about 3mm-30 μ m, which refers to the area where radio waves and light overlap.
As a new spectrum technology, terahertz communication can provide larger transmission bandwidth to meet the transmission requirements of higher rates, so it has gradually become one of the key technologies of 6G communication. Facing the future, the peak rate of 6G communication will reach 1Tbps, so it is necessary to further improve the utilization rate under the existing spectrum resources and achieve higher wireless transmission capacity.
According to the official introduction of China Aerospace Science and Industry, since 2021, 25 institutes have aimed at the hot demand of 6G communications, followed closely with the frontiers of international communication technology, and chosen terahertz orbital angular momentum communication as a new breakthrough direction. multiplex signal transmission is realized in the terahertz band, super-capacity data transmission is completed, and spectrum efficiency is more than tripled. In the future, this technology can also serve the field of short-range broadband transmission of 10m-1km, provide support for aerospace applications such as high-speed transmission between lunar exploration, fire lander and cruiser, and wireless bus transmission within spacecraft, and provide information guarantee capability for deep space exploration and new spacecraft research and development in our country.
