The tender also attracted two South Korean companies, but lost to Chinese companies.

Samsung SDI has deployed battery stacking technology, which is mainly used to produce fifth-generation batteries for electric vehicles. This technology makes the battery more compact and has higher energy density by stacking materials such as anodes and cathodes.

Samsung SDI previously used the winding method to roll up the battery material and put it in a can. The stacking method can increase the energy density by more than 10% compared with the existing methods.
