CTOnews.com, April 19 (Xinhua) the long charging time of electric cars has been a problem for users, but Gaussion, a British startup, may have found a solution. They have developed a technology called MagLiB, which uses a magnetic field to speed up the charging process of the battery without affecting the battery life and even prolonging the battery life.

The principle of MagLiB is that when charging, a specially designed magnetic field is applied to the lithium-ion battery, thus greatly reducing the charging time. The magnetic field is generated by a cushion connected to a power source, similar to a wireless mobile phone charger. The mat can be mounted on the ground and is compatible with any existing electric vehicle or charging system.

Gaussion founder and CEO Thomas Heenan said that with MagLiB technology, electric cars can be recharged with a range of 150-200 miles in less than 10 minutes. Moreover, this technology will not damage the performance of the battery, nor will it affect its warranty. On the contrary, after testing, they found that using MagLiB for fast charging can improve battery life.

"We used MagLiB to charge some batteries that would have taken an hour to recharge, and it took less than 10 minutes to recharge from 10% to 80%," Heenan said. "We repeated this experiment 1000 times, and these batteries were supposed to be scrapped after using them only 300 times. so we actually greatly extended their life. in fact, we haven't reached the limit and we can move on."

Heenan also said that the magnetic field they produce is not strong enough to match the magnets of household refrigerators and does not cause harm to the human body or the environment.

According to CTOnews.com, the technology has entered an advanced stage of testing, and the first demonstration units are expected to be put into use in 2025. If this technology can be widely used in public charging networks, it will greatly change the lives of electric vehicle users and reduce congestion at charging stations.
