CTOnews.com, April 19 (Xinhua)-- according to the latest report from MacRumors, Apple will launch a new generation of iPhone 15 series phones this year, of which the most high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max will be equipped with a technology called "periscope lens" that can achieve 5-6 times optical zoom. This will be a major upgrade for the iPhone camera, and currently the iPhone can only achieve up to 3x optical zoom.

According to CTOnews.com, the periscope lens is a technology that uses light refraction or "folding" to allow camera elements to have a greater distance in the compact design of the phone, thereby increasing the ability of optical zoom. The technology has been used by some Android brands such as Samsung, Google and Huawei, and phones such as Pixel 7 Pro and Galaxy S23 Ultra offer 5x to 10x optical zoom.

According to Apple analyst Guo Mingyi in July 2022, the periscope lens will be designed for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and will be built into a telephoto lens to achieve a 6x zoom without affecting the quality or clarity of the picture. Guo Mingyi also said that periscope lenses will only appear on the most high-end models in at least the next two generations of iPhone, meaning that only the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have the technology next year.
