Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
April 18, the game company said that the technology behind ChatGPT will greatly accelerate game development, reduce costs, and help players interact with game characters in new ways.
In recent months, AIGC tools have become popular for their ability to create text, images, and even music based on simple text prompts. Game development companies have used this technology for a variety of tasks, such as helping create virtual scenes and scripts, designing weapons and characters, and so on.
"all of our games are considering using AIGC technology," said Maria Radulovic-Nastici, EA's chief technology officer for creativity and development.
EA is using this technology to quickly create digital sketches to visualize game levels, tasks and other functional ideas. In the past, these designs might take several weeks for developers to draw by hand, but now they can be completed in just a few hours.
Roblox is building its own AIGC tools for developers who develop games and other experiences on its platform. These tools can quickly create new material and actions on the screen. Developers only need to use simple text prompts to make the car's paint bubble shape and make it fly without any programming.
Dan Sturman, chief technology officer of Roblox, said: "even if you have a lot of incredible ideas in mind, they can quickly become a reality, and you can use AIGC to create the material you want."
Generative artificial intelligence can also help developers build sound landscapes in games and simplify the process of writing conversations for background characters, such as the character's response to explosions.
Ubisoft recently launched Ghost Writer, an AI tool that creates first drafts for game conversations. The company says this is one of the most strenuous tasks for video game developers. In a blog post in March, Ubisoft said that the time and creative effort required to write a game dialogue could be used to optimize other core plots.
In addition, game companies can use AIGC to quickly provide a different look for their games based on seasonal changes. Playtika last month used the technology to add graphics for St. Patrick's Day (March 17, a holiday for Ireland and its immigrants) and copied it into the popular game Bingo Blitz.
Despite these benefits, many game developers say they are treating AIGC with caution. After Microsoft released a new version of its Bing search engine using ChatGPT technology in February, testers said they received inaccurate or strange responses. Developers are now worried that similar results may appear in the game conversations they have created.
Another concern is that using AIGC models to create game characters, weapons, and other content may encounter copyright issues, as AIGC models are usually trained in a large amount of publicly available text, code, and graphics. In addition, the technology may create similar-looking games for different companies.
Some startups are trying to help game developers create original content so that they can train AI generators according to their art and style. Scenario has developed its own platform based on AI generators such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney for game studios to generate custom content.
"We are entering an era of highly personalized Scenario," said Emmanuel de Maistre, chief executive and co-founder of AI.
AIGC is also helping some small game studios do more with less money. Electric Noir Studios uses ChatGPT and audio tool Murf to create text messages and voicemails as clues in its mobile game Dead Man's Phone. The company also used Midjourney to create realistic court characters for its thriller game "You be the Judge!".
Nihal Nihal Tharoor, chief executive and co-founder of Electric Noir Studios, said the company could not afford to hire actors, costume designers and other professionals to make the game, and that using AIGC technology allowed "us to create high-quality games faster and cheaper."
But industry executives say AIGC will not completely replace humans because someone has to type prompts and the results often need to be improved.
Demiurge Studios, a small game studio owned by Swedish media holding company Embracer Group, recently started using AI art generators to help visualize the ideas of new games. Albert Reed, the company's chief strategy officer, says they still need human staff to guide and review the results. "this is a tool to simplify the work flow of artists, but someone should guide AI," he said. "
