Beijing, April 18 (Xinhua) Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has stopped promoting its meta-universe project to advertisers and instead promoted its artificial intelligence (AI) tool and short video product Reels, according to advertising company executives.

Around this time last year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg) was still betting on meta-universe and even changed the company's name. But his enthusiasm began to fade as his company began to cut costs and lost billions of dollars in realizing the virtual world of meta-universe.

Meta no longer promotes meta-universe to advertisers at meetings. Instead, the company is encouraging the use of its short video product Reels, while highlighting the large number of AI tools it has.

In addition to promoting the adoption of Reels,Meta, it is also promoting a range of AI tools, such as Advantage+, to advertisers. Advantage + is a project launched by Meta last year that uses machine learning to place targeted ads on Meta's social platform.

Meta is also investing in generative AI tools that can help create marketing campaigns. An employee at Meta says this type of investment may bring short-term benefits to the company. At present, Meta is under pressure to cut costs.

As part of the company's "year of efficiency", Meta has been moving away from meta-universe. The company has laid off more than 20,000 employees in the past six months. Last October, Zuckerberg also refused to abandon his commitment to meta-universe, claiming that the company's investment in reality labs, the department responsible for meta-universe, would only increase. But now reality Lab has lost billions of dollars and is under pressure to operate more frugally.

In a more than 2000-word note on the latest round of layoffs, Zuckerberg only mentioned meta-universe twice, while AI development was described as the company's "largest single investment." In a conference call in February to discuss Meta's full-year 2022 earnings, Meta executives mentioned AI six times, but Metasmos didn't mention it at all.

Meta declined to comment publicly on its meta-cosmic ambitions or advertising strategy.
