On the morning of April 18, Beijing time, it was reported that Tesla submitted information to US regulators to disclose a fatal car accident related to the autopilot system.

Seventeen people have been killed since US regulators asked Tesla to report accident data on autopilot in June 2021.

When a Tesla Model S car collided with an emergency vehicle in the San Francisco Bay area in February, the State Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had asked Tesla to submit more information. According to the information disclosed by NHTSA, there have been a total of 66 accidents related to Tesla's L2 system.

Safety advocates in Washington have called on regulators and lawmakers to establish stricter regulations for self-driving cars and self-driving technology, including Tesla's Autopilot system.

On December 31 last year, Musk tweeted that the FSD system would be upgraded in April without warning even if he left the steering wheel with both hands. In response, NHTSA questioned Musk in January to explain the matter.

Tesla stressed on the website that the Autopilot and complete self-driving features are for focused drivers and must keep their hands on the steering wheel and be ready to take over the car at all times.
