CTOnews.com, April 18 (Xinhua) in a recent interview with Fox News, American billionaire Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed his plan to create a new type of artificial intelligence (AI). He called the AI "truth GPT" (TruthGPT), challenging the popular chat robot ChatGPT.

"I'm going to start a project that I call 'TruthGPT', or an artificial intelligence that tries to understand the nature of the universe and maximize the search for truth," Musk said. "I think this may be the best way to security, because an AI who cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to destroy human beings, because we are an interesting part of the universe."

Musk also said he believes AI has the potential to "destroy civilization", "no matter how small".

Musk co-founded OpenAI with chief executive Sam Altman and others in 2015, but left the company's board in 2018, according to CTOnews.com. The reason he stated at the time was to avoid a potential conflict of interest with Tesla, but Musk later said another reason was that he "didn't agree with some of the things that the OpenAI team wanted to do." Since stepping down from the board of OpenAI, Mr Musk has repeatedly criticized the company. In February, he said it was "not what I wanted at all", calling it a "closed-source, profit-maximizing company effectively controlled by Microsoft".

Musk has poached some AI researchers from Google and signed up for a company called X.AI Corp to compete with OpenAI, Reuters reported.

Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, said Musk was one of his heroes. "I believe he is very concerned about AGI security, which is why he attacked OpenAI on Twitter," he said.

It was reported in March that Musk had tried to take over as chief executive of OpenAI in 2018, but left after Altman and others rejected the idea, angering at the recent popularity of ChatGPT, which gained 100 million monthly active users in the first two months alone.

Last month, Musk was one of more than 1000 people who signed the open letter, calling for a moratorium on advanced artificial intelligence development.
