CTOnews.com, April 17 (Xinhua)-- M.Video-Eldorado, Russia's largest consumer electronics chain, analyzed the Russian smartphone market in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the report, Russian users bought more than 6.5 million devices from January to March this year, which is similar to the result of last year. Among them, the top 5 brands are Xiaomi, realme, Samsung, Apple and Voice. Chinese brands account for 70 per cent of unit sales, up from 50 per cent last year.

According to M.Video-Eldorado, the average price of smartphones purchased in Russia from January to March 2023 was about 22000 rubles (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1848 yuan), down 23% from last year, according to Pexels.

In currency terms, the total Russian smartphone market is about 145 billion rubles (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 12.18 billion yuan). In terms of quantity, Russian users' demand for Chinese brands has increased by 42% over last year, with a combined share of more than 70%. Xiaomi (No. 2 in 2022) became the highest-selling brand in Russia in the first quarter of this year, with realme (No. 4 a year ago) climbing to second place, Samsung in third place, Apple in fourth place, and Tecno in the top five, making it the fastest-growing brand.

In 2022, the Russian newspaper Merchant quoted MTS data as saying that Chinese smartphone brands were far more popular in Russia than Apple and Samsung.

According to the data, Xiaomi (including sub-brand POCO) was well ahead of its smartphone peers in Russia in market share in July. In terms of sales, Xiaomi and its subsidiary POCO together accounted for 42 per cent of the Russian smartphone market in July, ranking first. In second place, realme,7 accounted for 17% of the Russian smartphone market in monthly sales.

The latest results show that M.Video-Eldorado 's sales fell by 14% in 2022. M.Video estimated in the investor report that the overall size of the Russian electronics and electrical appliances market fell from 2.5 trillion roubles in 2021 to 2.3 trillion rubles in 2022.
