CTOnews.com, April 17 (Xinhua)-- Google Play Commerce prevents fraudulent and abusive trading of more than $2 billion in 2022, according to Google Android developers.

With Google Play Commerce, revenue can be achieved through applications and games in more than 170 markets and a global operating business platform that supports payment for digital products and content in a secure and credible manner.

In 2022, Google Google Play blocked fraudulent and abusive transactions worth more than $2 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 13.74 billion yuan). Bad actors who try to abuse the application will implement a number of strategies in terms of one-time purchases and automatic renewal payments. For example, they may try to steal their account to buy goods in the app, or ask for a refund for in-app purchases that have been consumed or sold, or use fake gift cards to buy goods. If bad actors try to use multiple strategies or comprehensive strategies at the same time, it may cause developers' applications to be abused on a large scale.

The information asymmetry between Google Play and developers is often exploited by bad actors. The two effective solutions that developers can adopt are Voided Purchases API and Obfuscated Account ID. More than 70% of Google Play's top 200 profitable developers have integrated these solutions to reduce the risk of fraud and abuse of their applications.

Voided Purchases API provides a list of invalid applications and subscription orders for each user. Developers can perform undo operations to prevent users from accessing the products in these orders.

Obfuscated Account ID helps Google Play detect fraudulent transactions. For example, a transaction in which multiple devices are purchased through the same account in a short period of time can be detected.

Developers can also use Play Integrity API to protect applications and games from potentially risky and fraudulent interactions such as cheating and unauthorized access. Developers can call Play Integrity API at important moments to check whether user actions or server requests come from unmodified applications, that is, applications installed through Google Play and running on genuine Android devices. Once a problem occurs, the back-end server of the application can take appropriate behavior to respond, so as to prevent attacks and reduce the risk of abuse. Developers who use the API say unauthorized access to their apps and games has decreased by an average of 50 per cent.

How △ Play Integrity API works, Google recently released Purchases.product.consume, which allows developers to use Play Developer API to consume goods in the application and reduce the risk of client abuse by moving more business logic to a secure back end. For example, if a bad actor buys an item from the application and tampers with the client, the system will automatically refund it because it has not been confirmed 3 days after the purchase. The use of server-side consumption will prevent the abuse of such applications.
