At present, even with the best wireless headphones, your voice is only average when transmitted to the other person's ear, and it's even worse if you're talking on the phone while driving. Although Bluetooth technology has made great progress in listening to music, it has not broken through in terms of call quality. However, Android may bring a better call experience to in-car devices.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman has discovered that a patch has recently been added to the Android Open Source Project repository that implements features related to Bluetooth Handsfree Profile v1.9. CTOnews.com understands that this profile, which is still in draft form, will expand the frequency range transmitted through hands-free devices, upgrading from the current wideband voice (50Hz-7kHz) to ultra-wideband voice (50Hz-14kHz) and using the relatively new LC3 codec. But it's not yet at full bandwidth reproduction (20Hz-20kHz), which is what most consumer-grade Bluetooth audio devices can achieve.

It's a huge leap forward in Bluetooth call quality, so to speak. Of course, hardware manufacturers still need to follow up, but at least the first step has been taken.
