CTOnews.com, April 16, Panasonic said it is considering building a third plant in the United States to produce batteries for electric vehicles.

The company reportedly signed a subsidy agreement with Oklahoma. The amount of investment in the state has not yet been determined, but Governor Kevin Stitt said the deal will bring in $5 billion in investment and create 3500 jobs. Panasonic reportedly said it had not made a decision on a major investment.

Panasonic said: "Panasonic has reached an agreement with Oklahoma to determine the eligibility and terms of incentives under the Oklahoma LEAD Act." Panasonic is referring to the state's incentives to attract large companies to its Central American industrial park in Pryor.

"the company has not made any other specific decisions. As soon as we have more information, we will share it with you."

In addition to longtime customer Tesla, other electric car manufacturers are also trying to use Panasonic as a potential battery supplier at a time when electric vehicle sales are soaring, Kyodo news agency reported. Panasonic is already in talks with Stellantis and BMW to build a new electric car plant in North America, according to the Wall Street Journal.

In July last year, the Japanese company said it would not choose Oklahoma as the site for its second electric car battery plant and chose to make batteries for Tesla in Kansas. State officials say the $4 billion investment will create as many as 4000 jobs.
