The hydrogen blending technology of natural gas is to mix hydrogen into natural gas in a certain volume proportion and use the existing natural gas pipeline for transportation. In the demonstration platform of Ningdong natural gas hydrogen pipeline in Yinchuan, Ningxia, the proportion of hydrogen in the 397 km long natural gas pipeline has reached 24%, and the operation is safe and stable. By the end of 2022, the total mileage of oil and gas pipelines in China has reached 185000 km. Based on the current natural gas consumption in China, when the hydrogen blending ratio reaches 20%, more than 10 million tons of hydrogen can be transported, equivalent to more than 560 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity, and the cost of hydrogen will be greatly reduced.

According to the different ways of hydrogen production, hydrogen can be divided into gray hydrogen, blue hydrogen and green hydrogen. At present, most of the market is gray hydrogen, accounting for about 95% of today's global hydrogen production, which is made from fossil fuels. Blue hydrogen is made from fossil fuels using carbon capture technology, while green hydrogen is made from renewable energy to decompose water.
In recent years, China has accelerated the development of hydrogen energy industry. On March 23, 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration issued the "medium-and long-term Plan for the Development of hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035)", proposing to establish a "1th N" policy system, clarify the strategic positioning of hydrogen energy, and deploy key tasks for the development of the industry. By the end of 2022, local governments have issued more than 300 support policies, covering transportation, industry and other application areas. Central enterprises have also actively participated in the layout and development of the hydrogen industry chain, involving coal, electric power, oil and gas, nuclear energy and other important energy fields. At the end of 2022, the number of hydrogen filling stations completed and put into operation in China reached 274, ranking first in the world and accounting for 33.7% of the world.
