I talked about the whole set of color setting process and the parameters of the monitor before, but some students asked me some detailed questions, so this time I would like to add some knowledge about color setting and display selection, so that we can avoid misunderstandings and reduce the chromatic aberration of the picture.

1. Color correction can make up for color decay, but not omnipotent color decay can be found on any monitor, as do Apple and Yizhuo. Color decay means that the color stability of the screen decreases, and then the color needs to be recalibrated.

There are three points in terms of school color:

(1) Color correction cannot change the inherent properties of the display, such as low color gamut, insufficient color depth, or too large Delta E. Color correction is the best value to restore the actual display effect of the display to the range of attributes.

(2) some professional photographic monitors have factory school colors, which means that they do not need to be used for half a year to a year and then be corrected according to the situation.

(3) the screen with good quality corrects color more than half a year, and the screen with poor quality corrects color once every two months.

School color meter can be rented, 70 yuan a time online, the mainstream are red spider and blue spider, as shown in the following picture:

If you still need custom adjustment on individual colors after color correction, you can adjust it in the menu in the lower right corner of the display.

This is the menu of the Asustek PA279CRV monitor I used. it has the color adjustment function of RGB gain and offset, the gain is to make a primary color more prominent, and the offset is similar to the trend of color temperature. It can make the screen color closer to the effect we want.

2, the general color file released by the network we use for the pictures published on the network, in order to let all screens recognize the color, so choose the most basic general color space sRGB 1966-2.1so that even the screen with low color gamut can be recognized and displayed.

We can use the Adobe RGB color setting when editing the image, but before saving the image, select this option in the "conversion profile" of "Edit" in PS. If you also select Adobe RGB when saving, it will cause the screen that does not support Adobe gamut to be unable to display color, resulting in a large color difference.

3. Different requirements for color gamut for primary revision, the photographic display with 100% sRGB,10 bit color depth and Delta E less than 2 is enough for beginners, such as Asustek PA279CV, which costs 2000 yuan.

Professional or demanding photography enthusiasts choose a display that supports more than 98% Adobe RGB gamut, which can restore more delicate colors when revising pictures, and has more advantages for printout.

All Apple's new computers are P3 color gamut, P3 color gamut is larger than sRGB, coupled with the excellent color stability of Apple screen, the display effect will be recognized by many photographers, Apple laptop is a very good choice to carry out. But strictly speaking, the P3 color gamut is slightly smaller than Adobe RGB.

As pictured above, there are also differences in color focus between P3 color gamut and Adobe RGB. P3 has a wider color gamut in red and cyan, and Adobe RGB has a wider color gamut in blue and green. They share most of the common gamut space, but there are also subtle differences.

So I fixed the picture at home and used an Apple laptop to connect a stand-alone display with a 99% Adobe RGB color gamut to achieve a better effect than Apple's screen. It is most appropriate to use an Apple laptop when you are on a business trip.

This is a 4K 27-inch display with an Asustek PA279CRV attached to my Apple laptop and has a 99% Adobe RGB,99% DCI-P3 gamut.

If you make a video, there is also a video gamut to choose from.

Rec.709 color gamut is a general basic color gamut in the video industry, which meets the needs of daily video editing.

DCI-P3 is a relatively professional color gamut in the video industry, which strengthens cyan and red.

4, color depth and Delta E color depth and Delta E, these two parameters are easy to be ignored, many monitors have the same gamut parameters, but the actual display effect is different, mainly because of the difference between these two parameters.

Color depth: refers to the number of color types that can be displayed. The more the number of color types, the more delicate the color. This is the relationship between the power of 2, 8bit color depth is 2 to the 8th power, equal to 256th, means that each primary color can be divided into 256colors, then there are three primary colors, a total of 256x256times 256equal to more than 1700000 colors; 10bit color depth is 2 to the 10th power, in the same way, after multiplying three primary colors, there are more than 1 billion colors.

There are 8-bit and 16-bit color depth options in PS software. We choose 16-bit color depth to prevent image color fault and make the image color more delicate. Therefore, the display with 8bit color depth is only enough for daily office use, which is disadvantageous to photography and revision; we all have to choose a display that at least conforms to the color depth of 10bit.

Delta E color difference: refers to the difference between the actual color effect of the screen and the effect it should have in theory.

This difference must be the smaller the better, on behalf of the color display effect is more accurate, which is more critical than the color space, color space is only the basis, Delta E determines the color display accuracy.

When Delta E is greater than 3, the color difference is obvious and visible to the naked eye, so it is not suitable for picture revision. When Delta E is less than 2, the color difference is so small that it can hardly be distinguished by the naked eye, and most of the colors are in the accurate range. So Delta E is less than 2, which is what we need.

Asus PA279CRV 4K 27 inch, 10bit dark, Delta E less than 25, HDR and anti-blue light are not conducive to map revision. Many monitors take HDR effect and anti-blue light as selling points, but in the revision, these two functions will affect the effect of looking at the picture. For example, the anti-blue light function will make the screen obviously yellow, because in this function, the picture we see is no longer its original brightness and color.

For example, the Asustek PA279CRV also has an anti-Blu-ray feature, but we can turn this function off when editing pictures and turn it on when browsing files or watching movies for entertainment. Apple's screen itself does not have these features, so it is also suitable for image modification. If some monitors have this function but cannot be turned off, picture modification is not applicable.

6. The difference between Mirror screen and Fog screen Apple's screen stability is excellent. I don't like to use Apple's screen at home mainly because it is a mirror screen, otherwise I would have bought an iMac. It doesn't take a long time to fix pictures when you're on a business trip, so it feels good to use an Apple laptop. But I like the foggy screen of the IPS panel when I fix the pictures during my parents' time.

The reflection of the Apple mirror screen is the reflection of the Apple mirror screen. If there is a window or light next to it, it will obviously affect the view of the picture. The color and details of this part are very unclear.

Above the fog screen of Asustek PA279CRV is the IPS fog screen. Under the same light source, the degree of reflection is significantly reduced and slightly whitened, but you can see the color and details of the picture.
